(S)potted: Smash Lab (updated)

Laura Lowe has been producing and curating  Smash Lab for over 2 years, creating a ‘night-time laboratory’ for artists to move out of the usual art establishments and institutions and try out their work in progress somewhere different. The idea to create such a space was born out of her own frustrations as an artist working with live performances that don’t necessarily fit into the typical ‘live or performance art’ remit. Smash Lab provides an alternative space for experimentation, as well as access to audiences outside their usual ‘art’ networks. This year Laura has been joined by Polly Wright and Sarah Boulton to curate the next season of events.

The next Smash Lab is on the 1st April  The Book Club featuring the club hostess experience Good Punch, a labour of love sound performance by Leah Lovett, a slow running to catch trains inspired piece by video performance artist Calvin Lang, an autobiographical journey by dance artist Jenny Grant and an exploration of masculinity by Edward Alderwick.
